Frequently Asked Questions about Physiotherapy Care
Do I need a doctor's note to receive physiotherapy treatments?
No. In Alberta, you can book a physiotherapy appointment directly without a referral. However, some extended health benefit plans may require one for reimbursement, so it’s a good idea to check with your provider.
What should I bring for my first appointment?
Wear or bring comfortable clothing that allows easy movement, such as shorts for a lower body injury or a tank top for a shoulder or neck issue. If you have imaging results, surgical notes, or a list of medications, bring those along as well.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on your condition, its severity, and your individual response to treatment. Your physiotherapist will discuss a personalized treatment plan with you during your initial consultation.
Will I be given exercises to do at home?
Depending on the nature of your injury, your physiotherapist may give you targeted exercises designed to speed your recovery and prevent the problem from coming back. These are tailored to fit your daily routine and adjusted as you progress. Active participation in your rehab improves the outcomes.
Do you work with chronic conditions?
Absolutely. Many chronic conditions improve with a combination of movement retraining, strength building, and education. We focus on both reducing your current symptoms and improving your body’s capacity to handle future demands.
Do you work with other providers if I'm already in treatment?
Yes. If you’re also seeing another provider—inside or outside our clinic—we can coordinate care to ensure everyone is working toward the same goals without duplicating treatments.
